If you’re looking to pour a true taste of Virginia’s unique terroir into your glass this week, look no further than Revalation Vineyards’ Mélange de Blancs.
Fresh off winning a Silver Medal at the 2025 Virginia Governor’s Cup, this vibrant, multi-layered white blend perfectly encapsulates what happens when scientific precision meets a deep passion for local winemaking.
🍷 In the Glass: Tasting Notes & The Blend
The Mélange de Blancs (13.5% ABV) is a masterclass in balance and harmony. Crafted from five distinct grape varieties, each brings its own strength to the bottle:
57% Vidal Blanc (Structure & crispness)
17% Chardonnay (Body & orchard fruit depth)
13% Albariño (Zesty acidity & minerality)
7% Petit Manseng (Vibrant, electric acidity)
6% Viognier (Lush, floral aromatics)
Tasting Highlights
The Aroma: A beautiful, floral bouquet opening with a potpourri of white flowers, ripe peach, and freshly zested lemon.
The Palate: Medium-bodied with a juicy, refreshing attack. You’ll taste an abundance of fresh citrus and crisp orchard fruits wrapped in bright acidity, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.
🍽️ Pairing Tip: While it is absolutely wonderful to sip on its own, this complex white pairs exceptionally well with fresh seafood dishes, oysters, and aged hard cheeses.
🍇 The Story Behind the Bottle: Revalation Vineyards
To truly appreciate what’s in the glass, it helps to understand the hands that made it.
Revalation Vineyards was founded by Françoise (a Belgian statistician) and Julian (an Irish dentist). The two first fell in love with wine while living in the San Francisco Bay Area, learning from winemaking scientists and dreaming of one day starting a labor of love of their own.
Eventually relocating to the East Coast, they fell under the spell of the Blue Ridge Mountains and set out to find land suitable for high-quality viticulture.
"Let the Vines Sing!"
Françoise and Julian operate on a few core beliefs:
Quality Over Quantity: Managing small-batch productions (often 25 to 150 cases per run) allows them to harvest at optimal times with minimal manipulation in the cellar.
Low Intervention: Using as few chemicals as possible while letting the natural sunshine, rain, and Virginia soil express itself in the glass.
Mentorship: Training high school students and summer interns to help inspire the next generation of Virginia wine professionals.
